Kitchen Cabinet Refacing: What Is It?

The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where family and friends gather to share meals and enjoy time together.

Worn down or dated cabinets can be a very visible and constant reminder that it’s time to update your space.

Before you reach for the sledgehammer, consider this: it’s possible to totally transform the look of your kitchen through a process called Refacing. Refacing is a kitchen cabinet makeover — it can give your kitchen a totally fresh appearance without the time, hassle, or waste of a traditional kitchen remodel.

How Refacing Works

When you choose Oneiric Design and Build cabinet refacing we replace your cabinet doors, drawer fronts, hinges, ends, and trim, so all the visible parts of your cabinets are brand new.

As professionals of our craft, we’ve refined our Refacing process to give you high-quality, long-lasting results you’ll love.

Here’s how Refacing process works:

STEP 1

All your existing doors, drawer fronts, and hinges are removed. Your cabinet boxes and drawer boxes will remain intact. Looking to add a few extra cabinets or have any damaged boxes? We can provide new boxes for your project.

STEP 2

Your existing cabinet boxes are cleaned up and prepared to receive engineered materials that will match your new doors.

STEP 3

All visible exteriors of your cabinet boxes, including frames and sides are covered with engineered materials for a matching, custom look.

STEP 4

New doors, drawer fronts, hinges, handles and drawer pulls are installed.

STEP 5

Optional accessories are installed, such as crown molding, storage accessories and light valances.

Is Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Right For Me?

Here are a few key questions to ask yourself as you consider whether kitchen cabinet refacing is right for you:

Do I like the existing layout of my kitchen?

With cabinet Refacing, the main layout of your kitchen cabinet does not change. However, cabinet refacing does offer several enhancements, such as add-on cabinets, kitchen islands and more. These options give you additional flexibility when considering a kitchen transformation.

Does my kitchen look dated?

Well maintained, high-quality kitchen cabinets can last a long time, decades even. While those cabinets from the 1980s might still be in good working condition, they may eventually start to look dated or out of style. Cabinet Refacing offers nearly endless style options so you can achieve the exact look you want.

What is the condition of my cabinet boxes?

When we Reface your kitchen cabinets, we will replace all your doors, drawer fronts, hardware and trim, but your cabinet interiors will not change. We can add storage solutions that will improve the function of your cabinets, such as pot and pan drawers, shelving and other organizers, but your cabinet boxes themselves should be sturdy. We will help assess the condition of your cabinets during your free In-home or virtual consultation.

How long do I want to spend on this project?

A traditional kitchen remodeling project can take weeks. If you’re looking for a way to refresh and update your kitchen with minimal time in and disruption to your home (1-4 days), Refacing may be a good option for you.

What is the environmental impact of my project?

When you tear out your existing kitchen there is a lot of waste—your existing cabinet boxes get taken to the landfill and new ones must be manufactured and shipped to you, creating additional environmental impacts, such as trees being cut down, transportation and manufacturing-related carbon emissions. With Refacing the cabinet boxes will be reused, making it a more sustainable, eco-friendly option.
